Last Paper Issue of the Current!

The KACRAO Current is leaping into the 21st century this year. This issue is the last issue to be mailed to the membership. Like our AACRAO counterpart, the Data Dispenser, the Current will be posted on the KACRAO web site, www.kacrao.org.

The publications committee will continue to create the newsletter each quarter as it does now. An e-mail message will then be sent to the membership via the state listserv, KACRAO-L. The message will contain a hot link to the location of the newsletter on the web site. Depending on the web browsers of members, most can simply click on the hot link and be taken to the newsletter via the Internet. Others, with older browsers, will simply copy the hot link address from the e-mail message to their Internet address bar to reach the site.

The move was made to conserve resources spent on printing and mailing over 400 copies of the newsletter to the membership. The Executive Committee approved the move to electronic publication at its April meeting in McPherson. The Executive Committee discussed options for distribution of required information to members who do not have access to the Internet or e-mail. It was decided that those members could notify the publications committee chair and a paper copy could be sent to them. A postcard will be sent to notify members of such items as budget proposals and constitutional amendments and their location on the web site. KACRAO bylaws stipulate that members be notified at least 60 days in advance of the annual meeting of budget proposals and amendments. Again, members without electronic access will be provided with a contact name to request paper copies.

The annual issue for high school counselors will still be mailed via the US Postal Service to Kansas high schools.
