What
have been your favorite memories of being a member of KACRAO?
The fun and the friendships! I
have developed some great friendships through KACRAO. I will always be
thankful for that. In addition, I have had a lot of fun at conferences and
events. I can remember dressing as a 20's flapper for the KACRAO held in
Lawrence, as a bum for the Pittsburg conference and in formal attire for
the Overland Park conference. Next year, I guess I will dress as my
favorite rock star! The point is that everyone jumps in, gets involved,
participates and has a great time!
How
has KACRAO assisted you in your professional development?
KACRAO has given me a tremendous amount
of information over the years that has helped me in my professional
career. However, the people I have met along the way and the
networking that KACRAO has provided has been by far the most important way
that KACRAO has helped me. The mentors and friends that I have within
KACRAO have all been terrific people who have given me so much in terms of
knowledge and experience.
What
is your advice to your fellow KACRAO members and colleagues new to the
profession?
Get involved! My first couple of years
in the profession I did not get involved. As a result, I didn't know
people and felt disconnected at the conferences. Once I made the
commitment to participate I met alot of new people and learned so many new
things. One other piece of advice I have is to treat others with respect
and dignity. Whether those people are students, faculty, colleagues or
friends they deserve to be treated fairly. I have always lived by the old
adage, treat others as you would like to be treated. It has helped me
through many situations. |
